Focus and Scope

The Journal of Molecular Biochemistry (JmolBiochem) welcomes the submission of scientific manuscripts in the broad field of molecular biochemistry. It aims to cover several areas relating to modern biology and biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, molecular modelling, drug design, virology, stem cells and cell signalling.

It is an open access academic publishing journal, which provides scientists with a fast reviewing process resulting in quick publication (maximum of six weeks) of scientific articles. All articles published in JmolBiochem will be peer-reviewed by our extensive network of specialists around the globe.

JmolBiochem will publish:

Research articles: A research article should contain: a summary or “abstract”, a full and detailed description of the research and the methods used, figures and tables of the results and, most importantly, an interpretation and discussion of the results justifying the scope of the article.

Letters to the Editor or Short Communications: A Letter to the Editor or Short Communication is suitable for small-scale works and investigations, giving rise to new hypotheses or methods and techniques. There are no required sections as there are in research articles. Letters to the editor and Short Communications are 3-4 printed pages in length.

Reviews and Essays: We welcome and encourage the submission of reviews and essays covering hot topics of high scientific interest in the field of Molecular Biochemistry. Reviews and essays are 6-8 printed pages in length. Please note that review and essay submissions are also peer-reviewed, before publication.

Upon submission, authors should provide a cover letter including the corresponding author’s contact details (i.e. full address and telephone/fax numbers). The cover letter should be a .doc file that must be submitted firstly via our online system and then emailed directly to the chosen editor’s email address. Authors are welcome to suggest up to four reviewers for their manuscript, however, JMolBiochem may not choose any of the suggested reviewers.

Peer Review Process

All articles are assigned to an editor and/or members of the Editorial Board. They will then contact the most appropriate qualified external reviewer. The decision will be made as soon as we receive feedback from at least two or three reviewers with similar views on the article. This process shall not exceed in duration a total of four weeks.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Ethical Guidelines

The Journal of Molecular Biochemistry follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines concerning authorship and editorship. Editors strive to follow the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines concerning their general responsibilities, the peer review process, data protection as well as their relations with authors, editorial board members and readers. In addition, all research involving humans and animals should be performed according to internationally accepted guidelines. The COPE guidelines can be found here.

Furthermore, articles can be retracted if found to contain data that are unreliable, erroneous, unethical, redundant or have been plagiarised. Article retraction guidelines can be found here. It should be noted that JMolBiochem takes plagiarism very seriously and any such allegations will be investigated in depth. Each case is different, but the author’s background and intentions will be evaluated carefully before reaching a decision. In cases of serious plagiarism, articles will be retracted, while the author’s institution might have to be informed.
